Centrifugal pumps where the suction and discharge connections are “in line” with each other and there is no change in direction or orientation in the casing, are referred to as in-line pumps.
This style of pump has a smaller footprint, simpler piping, and because fluid is able to flow more easily through the pump, a lower NPSHr than end suction pumps.
